About Military to Trades

Military to Trades is an independent editorial site that helps veterans and transitioning service members compare skilled-trade careers using public federal data.

Who runs the site

The site is written and maintained by the Military to Trades team, a small independent editorial team. We are not a government agency, a recruiter, a school or an employer. Military to Trades is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of War (formerly the Department of Defense), the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Labor or any branch of service.

Military to Trades shares ownership with Veteran Trade Schools and Registered Trade Schools, which publish directories of GI Bill-approved and registered training programs. Where we link to those sites, we say so.

How we source

  • Military job matches come from the O*NET military crosswalk, which links military occupation codes to civilian occupations.
  • Pay, job counts and outlook come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics: Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics and the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
  • GI Bill rules and rates come from the Department of Veterans Affairs, including its on-the-job training and apprenticeship pages and the GI Bill Comparison Tool.

Every figure is linked to its source on the page where it appears, and each article shows when it was last updated and when its sources were last reviewed. Our methodology page explains how we process the data and what it can't tell you.
